Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy is a widely used imaging technique in equine medicine that allows veterinarians to obtain real-time moving images of internal structures and systems. The process involves the use of a special machine that emits a continuous X-ray beam. This beam is then passed through the horse's body and captured by a detector on the other side. As the X-ray beam interacts with the different tissues and structures within the horse, it creates a live video image that is displayed on a monitor. This dynamic imaging modality enables veterinarians to evaluate the function and movement of various body systems, such as the respiratory and musculoskeletal systems, during activities such as exercise or swallowing. Fluoroscopy plays a crucial role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions, aiding in accurate treatment planning.
